Lateefah began her fitness career after five years in the film industry. She later worked in marketing and
event planning. After being a size 12-14 her entire adolescent and adult life, Lateefah then went up four
sizes after the birth of her son. Relentless,
Lateefah Fleming has done more than found a fitness company: She is creating a movement and experience. A space for women, especially black women, to discover the power and importance of their voice.
Her dedication is in empowering people as they begin the journey toward achieving their respective truths.

Belly dancing, strength training and determination lead to her personal major fitness results and to people asking how she achieved her weight loss.
Achieving true joy from helping people reach their goals, inspired Lateefah to go deeper into fitness and dance. (She actually began dancing at the age of six with the LaRocque Bey Dance Co. in Harlem, NY). During her journey, Lateefah managed Perry Studios in Harlem, while studying a variety of dance techniques including: the Graham Technique with E. Denise Perry, Jazz with Nancy Koch at STEPS on Broadway, and various expressions of Bellydance with Ariana al Tiye and Rayhana Madonna. She later continued her Belly dance studies with Anahid Sofian, Chadia al Ras and Audie. She continues to study with Tashira Wadiya.
Seeking to become proficient in health and wellness, Lateefah became a certified personal trainer and group exercise instructor through the Aerobic and Fitness Association of America. She obtained her 200 hours as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) in Vinyasa Yoga from the Joschi Institute of Yoga. Other certifications include BollyX, Zumba, Advanced level of Mat Pilates through Core Pilates, Schwinn Fitness and a Fitness and Nutrition certification through Penn Foster.
Over the past fifteen years, in group and personal fitness, yoga and dance, Lateefah has taught, and still teaches at, New York Sports Club, Crunch Fitness, HBO Fitness Center, Glenpointe Spa and Fitness, The Gym in Englewood, Perry Studios, The Center for Modern Dance Education, American Woman Fitness Center, free community classes at Community Health Academy of the Heights in Washington Heights, Nellie K. Parker Elementary School, Yeshivat Noam, Mount Moriah and Teaneck High School Academies.
Lateefah was also the Group Exercise Director at Glenpointe Spa and Fitness, the Fitness and Dance Manager for YWCA of Bergen County and the Group Exercise Manager at Clay Health Club+Spa. Personal and professional experiences lead Lateefah to begin empowerFit. As the Chief Motivating Officer and ultimate “Transform-ologist” for empowerFit, Lateefah has created a one-stop shop for optimal health and wellness, providing: dance, personal and group training, yoga, Pilates, nutritional consultation, performance opportunities for women and pure motivation to help everyone achieve their goals. She has offered a slew of empowerFit signature classes at the Liberty School in Englewood, NJ, is co-founder of a more intense and fun Zumba, Cocoa Zumba, a founding member and Artistic Director of Raqs La'Majali, a World Dance Fusion company and is the Artistic Director and Founder of Sisters of the Drum, a bellydance company that consists of women from the Bergen County and surrounding communities. For the past 8 years, Lateefah has produced various bellydance and world dance fusion productions, including the Annual Global Dance Party, The Rock and Soul Bellydance Extravaganza and the Harlem Rhythm and Groove Music Experience. Lateefah continues to perform in bellydance and dance shows up and down the Eastern seaboard. Lateefah can be heard the last Wednesday of every month on WFDU, 89.1 in NJ for Wellness Wednesday, her humorous and truthful take on living and surviving healthfully in today's world.
